The design and upgrading of the Old Golden Highway is one of the projects emanated from the Local Spatial Development Framework for Evaton. Evaton is the responsibility of the Emfuleni Local Municipality, one of the three local municipalities within the Sedibeng District Municipality.
The following issues were addressed :
- Current and expected future capacity and operational service levels of bottlenecks (intersection) along the road;
- Required geometric layout and cross-sections;
- Requirements of non-motoring means of transports (NMT) such as pedestrians, bicycles and carts;
- Appropriate location and lay-out of public transports and pedestrian facilities.
