Winterveld

The City of Tshwane inherited the project under the cross-boundary agreement with North West province in 2000. Winterveld is situated approximately 32 Km Northwest of the Pretoria CBD.

VIP Consulting Engineers were approached by the Department of Local Government and Housing due to its expert knowledge of Municipal Infrastructure and policies to assist in the planning and execution of the Urban Renewal Program with specific focus on the Civil Engineering Infrastructure.

The program aims to reconstruct and develop Winterveld into a sustainable, integrated suburb in line with the National Policy of Breaking New Ground (BNG).

Although VIP Consulting Engineers were aware of the challenges which are usually associated with Urban Renewal Programs, the Winterveld area was especially difficult due to the stubborn unco-operative attitudes of some of the local communities to assist the Contractor in fulfilling its obligation to install services. The densely populated nature of the area also hampered the construction progress severely and re-routing of services had to be done on a daily basis.

Various Phases were completed in Winterveld under the Urban Renewal banner over the past 5 years which included the following:

Internal Water and Sewer reticulation in Extension 3 (±4300 Stands)
Internal Water reticulation in Extension 4 (±2800 Stands)
Link Sewer lines in Extension 4 (± 6000m)
Link Roads in Extensions 3 & 5 (± 6000m)
RPT Housing units (± 1800)

All projects had been effectively completed and provided to communities the basic services to which they never had access before, fulfilling the objective of “Breaking New Ground”.
