Monument Road
The extension of Monument Road in Kempton Park from Glen Marais to High Road (R23) unlocked the Witfontein area for commercial, industrial and residential development. The Witfontein area forms part of the R21 Development Corridor and is home to flagship developments like Plumbago Business Park and Plumbago Logistics Park.
According to the provincial road planning the position of the intersection of Monument Road and High Road conflicted with the blue gum forest at the historic milk shop on High Road. The blue gum forest is more than a 100 years old and is part of the legacy of the Erasmus family. VIP Consulting Engineers applied on behalf of the land owner to the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport (GDRT) to amend the position of the intersection. GDRT kindly agreed and the blue gum forest was saved.
